Get your hair ready for the Christmas party!Award winning hairdresser Lawrence Anthony reveals trade secrets to glamorous party hair. We’re always very concerned about getting ourselves in shape for a party, to make sure that we can fit into that all important little black dress or sparkly number. What we tend to forget is that we need to get our hair in shape too!Top hairdresser and founder of Wantthelook.com, Lawrence Anthony says the trick to beautiful party hair rests in three simple steps, and with over 24 years of experience and a string of awards and accolades to his name, Lawrence Anthony’s know-how is invaluable to any would-be queen of Christmas. Lawrence says: Step One: Detox before RetoxThe trick to glowing glorious locks is to start early; at least two weeks before the party season begins with a thorough hair detox. If you’re a keen swimmer, like your styling products or work or live in a pollution hotspot then your hair will benefit from washing with a detox shampoo. Try using Paul Mitchell’s Shampoo 3 to help remove any residue. If you suffer from fine, limp flyaway hair then use a thickening shampoo and conditioner to plump up your locks like Volumactive range by Kerastase which helps to thicken hair but strengthens it too. If your hair is in need of a moisture surge, lavish your dry locks with a deep conditioning treatment to nourish and replenish the hair. Try an overnight conditioner like Kerastase Notogenist Voile Nuit and start using an ultra-pampering shampoo like the Diamond Dreams range by Tigi S-Factor to inject moisture and shine to your hair. And consider having your hair cut a few weeks before the party season begins, advises Anthony, to give the hair time to settle into the style and you time to adjust to it. Step Two: Decide on the look you want to achieveWhether it is Beyoncé or Audrey Hepburn, deciding on your look in advance of the party will give you time to plan your hair too, so that you complete your look beautifully. Whatever you do, do something different. Try swapping your normally straight locks for curls or waves both of which look great for a party. Use a curl enhancing lotion such as Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer through wet hair and dry hair with a diffuser to create a great wavy style. Alternatively, use large curling tongs to give you a beautiful loose curl. Or make sure you are on-trend with an 80s Power Bitch look. Think Dynasty’s Alexis Colby with a Noughties attitude. To give the hair height and curl use heated rollers before scooping the hair up and forward to create a high updo with dramatic effect. Finish the styles with a shine enhancing spray such as Tigi Head Rush. And if you’re not the adventurous type, then you cannot go wrong with a classic up-do such as a high pony tail, softened by lifting the front hair back to the crown. Use a product such as KMS California Hair Play Texture Blast to help you achieve the look.Step Three: Give yourself timeFinally, with your hair in great shape and your style planned, leave yourself enough time. Enjoy the process of creating your final look and if it doesn’t work the first time, you can always start again.A tip to make styling easier is to wash and dry your hair the night before as it will make the hair easier to work with and if you have dark roots or oily hair, use a dry shampoo such as Tigi Dirty Secret or a root boosting volumising spray such as Redken Styling Rootful 06 root lifting spray to bring your look to life.Lawrence Anthony is one of the UK’s most respected hairdressers.
